My First major infection experience

Sharing is caring!

Thought I’d share my experience dealing with an infection. For awareness purposes. This was slightly scary for me as infections are really common for people with my condition. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. I’m ok now btw I promise 🙏🤣

So I woke up yesterday feeling fine in the morning, showered and got on my wheelchair. Was getting prepared to film some Tiktoks with my sister ☹️ Around 12pm I coughed and discovered a chesty cough with lots of mucus. At first I thought I had Megatron 🤣 but this wasn’t the case. But the cough was similar. I didn’t have the strength to cough the mucus out and felt like I couldn’t breathe. I was fully congested.

My sister then rang the ambulance and we got everything checked at home. They suggested I should go with them to the hospital to get an x-ray to check if the mucus went to my lungs. As this could result in pneumonia. So I did go and to get more assistance.

Lucky for me it didn’t go to the lungs 🙏 My blood test showed a small infection. Here I was given antibiotics through my ✋, first time experiencing this so it was a weird feeling.

For my mucus problem I used a nebuliser (as you can see in the pictures) After using it for 15 minutes it was all gone! I can’t express how useful the nebuliser was for me. I definitely will try getting one prescribed by the GP. Later I was discharged on the same day with some antibiotics. With a clear throat.

To my fellow DMD brothers maybe look into a nebuliser as it’s a real life saver. Good to have one at home and get the mist prescribed.

I am really grateful it was a small infection 🙏 Now I have experienced this I’ll know what to expect for future. Also thanks to the hospital and ambulance service 🧡 It was a crazy day yesterday.

This is the real reality of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

It’s just ironic how one of my goals was to focus on health. I wrote them a day before this happened 😅 it’s probably just how the universe works. I’m still going to have the best year 💪

Happy New Year 🎆 stay well everyone 🤗
